Welcome back to a spectacular new school year.  This year we will be starting a computer club in the lab. Sixth Grade students in this club will meet once a month to discuss projects, schedule days to help the younger students, work on video production, websites, collaborate with other schools, and much more.  I expect this club to help us learn and investigate new learning opportunities in the lab.  Below is an outline of some things I will be doing with our grade levels at Manchester.

2nd Grade

The students will learn how to use our new computers and create Ten Thumbs Typing account.  We will practice and take the DRP reading test in the lab with help from our buddies.
We will have some smartboard lessons in math and on the Constitution.  Students will spend a good amount of time on a couple of internet safety sites, Dance Mat Typing, and PBS Kids. They will learn how to use our new computers in the lab and in science we will be exploring simple machines.

Our standard of focus will be Basic Operations.
3rd Grade
We will be spending a lot of time on Math in third grade, concentrating on multiplication and other grade appropriate math skills.  In Google Apps we will be working on email and continuing to use the calendar.   We will use Brain POP to study the constitution and back up what students are learning in science.  Students will log in to Discovery Education to study the ice age and other topics.  We will have some fun in math with Coolmathgames.com as well.  Lastly student will be learning how to use powerpoint and some of its valuable features.

Our standard of focus will be Multimedia Presentations and Tools.

4th Grade
Students will be working on ecosystems, STEM skills, Typing Web structured lessons, microscopes, spelling, and the constitution.  We will also explore seasons and other math sites. In Google apps students will be writing poems and creating documents.  All students will check student portal and create repeating events using calendar.

Our standard of focus will be Internet Networking.
5th Grade
We will be working on water cycle research and using this information to create a research project in Microsoft Word.  Students will be continuing to progress through the next set of lessons in Typing Web, and personalize their accounts.  Students will learn how to screen cast and work on world geography.  There will be an interactive smartboard lesson on the constitution along with some fun practice with math facts.

Our standard of focus will be Research
6th Grade

Students will explore Google Apps for Education and all that it has to offer.  We will begin to use this each week and start a project first creating documents.  Students will learn to screencast, print correctly, and save images.  Students will do interactive for Constitution Day and use the preamble for a word project.  In science I will support and use sites that tie in with weathering, erosion, and ecosystems.
Our standard of focus will be Word Processing & Desktop Publishing.
